About Piaffe and Us
PIaffe Whippets is situated on acreage at Brookfield, just 20 minutes from the Brisbane city centre. where we have been for decades. The iconic Brookfield Show is held just down the road at the Brookfield Showground where Ulla has run the dog shows for a number of years.
Ulla acquired her first Afghan Hound when she was just 12 years old, and with Andrew had a succession of these hounds from Hanrovia, Jacosta and Khandhu lines. Since the 1990s she and Andrew have transitioned into the whippet breed with the occasional Borzoi and Afghan Hound along the way! Since 2002 Harold Greensill has been an important part of the Piaffe team and lives on our adjoining block.

The Piaffe lines commenced with Taejaan whippets from Molly Rule- Steele. This relationship continued with the importation of American Festiva and Chelsea lines in partnership.
In 2010, with an introduction from Stephen Wheeler and Anders Rosell, a very special friendship with Michael Vikstrom of Twyborn Whippets in Sweden commenced, and resulted in the importation of Ch Twyborn Flam Beau. This was followed by the importation of Ch Twyborn Innocense and Ch Twyborn Joy of Life in 2014. Just prior to Covid, Ulla judged in Phoenix, Arizona, and highly awarded US CH, US GR CH Pinnacle Tennessee Whiskey “Whiskey”. Ulla and Andrew subsequently imported semen from this dog and have bred two Piaffe litters tapping also into the Piaffe and Swedish lines.

Piaffe Whippets breed only occasionally, and in a considered way to improve their lines. Beauty and good temperament are high priorities, as is finding the very best homes for their whippets.
A lawyer with an extensive government background, Ulla has been a recognised FCI International All Breeds Dog Judge since 2017. Since 2012 she has volunteered her time to the dog world in Queensland in a range of roles that have included President of the Canine Control Council (Qld) in 2012, a director of the Canine Control Council (Qld) Ltd for a number of years and more recently, from 2020 to 2024, President and Director of Dogs Queensland, the Canine Control Council Qld Ltd. In the past, Ulla has been Secretary of the Ladies Kennel Association of Qld and Qld Kennel Council and as mentioned above, continues to run the dog shows at their local Brookfield Show.
She has a particular interest in de-mystifying dog shows for members of the public and to educate the wider public about the beauty of owning a purebred dog and dealing with reputable breeders. In this context she has enjoyed announcing at the Brisbane Ekka dog show and other fora including the National Show in New Zealand and the Dachshund National Show in Brisbane in 2023.
